Protecting the environment

We have a long-term ambition to eliminate our operational impact on the environment.

Supporting a healthier planet while delivering medicines to millions

Providing access to medicines depends on resilient, efficient and responsible operations. We recognise that responsibly managing energy, water and natural resources is essential to sustaining our operations and supporting the millions of patients who rely on our medicines every year. In 2025, our medicines helped treat 222 million patients globally, reinforcing the importance of building a business that can deliver long-term value while reducing its environmental impact. Our approach focuses on the areas where we can have the greatest impact: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency and strengthening water stewardship, particularly in regions where water scarcity represents a growing challenge.

Figures as of 2025

Advancing our climate ambitions

19%

of our electricity came from renewable sources

354% vs 2021

Increase in our onsite renewable energy generation capacity

100%

Of the electricity used in our European facilities are from renewable sources

Completed in Jordan ahead of schedule

Since 2020, we have reduced our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 18%, demonstrating continued progress towards our target of a 25% reduction by 2030.

This progress has been supported by investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy across our manufacturing network.

Water is critical to pharmaceutical manufacturing and particularly important for the production of injectable medicines

Managing water where it matters most

Many of the countries where Hikma operates face significant water stress, especially across the Middle East and North Africa. In 2025 we strengthened our approach by:

Establishing company-wide water efficiency targets
Launching a new water stewardship policy
Introducing a water efficiency grading system across manufacturing sites
Increasing water storage capacity across the Group by 17% to improve resilience in water-scarce locations

By 2028, we aim to implement key elements of the ISO 46001 Water Efficiency Management System across our MENA operations, helping embed best practice water management throughout the region.
