Working at Hikma. Meet Razan Alsawwaf

Discover what it's like to work at Hikma through our employee testimonials.

1. What is your name, role, and location?

My name is Razan Alsawwaf, and I am an Associate Manager in the Research and Development department at Hikma Pharmaceuticals. I am based in Amman- Jordan, where our team plays a central role in driving product development life cycle.

2. Could you tell us about your day-to-day activities?

On a typical day, I oversee and guide my team as we manage projects from the very early stages of formulation design all the way through to regulatory filing. My role involves balancing hands-on technical work with leadership, reviewing experimental data, aligning project timelines, troubleshooting formulation or process challenges, and ensuring smooth communication with cross-functional teams across Hikma’s global network. I also dedicate time to mentoring and supporting my team, helping them grow while ensuring that we consistently deliver high-quality results.

3. What are the key challenges and opportunities in your role?

A key challenge in my role is finding the right balance between  developing robust, bioequivalent formulations and the managerial responsibility of leading people and projects under the targeted timelines. On the scientific side, ensuring that products are stable, scalable, and meet diverse regulatory requirements demands continuous problem-solving and adaptability. On the managerial side, my responsibility is to coordinate across multiple functions—analytical, clinical, and portfolio—while guiding my team, setting priorities, and ensuring that we deliver on time without compromising quality.
At the same time, such challenges add depth to the role, combining complexity with purpose. They require us to advance our technical capabilities, apply more rigorous planning, strengthen risk management, and work in closer alignment with cross-functional teams. Leading in this context also provides the responsibility and privilege of guiding and developing my team, fostering their growth while reinforcing a culture of accountability and excellence. Looking forward, Hikma’s emphasis on 505(b)(2) development transforms these challenges into opportunities to deliver differentiated, value-added medicines that enhance patient care and consolidate Hikma’s position as a leader in both generics and beyond.

It is rewarding to work in an environment that fosters collaboration, where our collective efforts translate into better outcomes for patients and reflect Hikma’s purpose of delivering better health within reach, every day.
