As part of this year’s activities, a group of Hikma employees in Jordan volunteered to refurbish the Sweimeh School for Girls. The volunteers painted and cleaned the outdoor area, and planted trees alongside the students, enjoying a sense of community in this shared activity.

At West Ward Eatontown in New Jersey the campaign focused on the environment. Starting with Earth Day on April 22nd the company distributed Colorado blue spruce saplings to each employee. As one tree can absorb as much as 48 lbs. (22 kg) of carbon dioxide per year, by planting our trees, we have helped reduce 57,600 lbs. (26,000 kg) of carbon dioxide annually per the life of our trees. In addition, employees volunteered at the Beach Sweep at local beaches to help clean up debris. This effort, organized by Clean Ocean Action, aimed to preserve one of New Jersey’s greatest resources.

“At Hikma, we believe in touching lives not only through the delivery of high-quality and affordable medications, but also by giving back to our local communities, our people and our environment. For the past eight years, the Global Volunteering Day has been a great way to engage our employees in community service and encouraging others to follow suit, in line with our efforts to actively contribute to social development and to support local communities around the world,” commented Hana Darwazeh Ramadan, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Hikma Pharmaceuticals.

Introduced in 2008 as part of its corporate responsibility (CR) program, Hikma has over the years celebrated its Global Volunteering Day in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Portugal, Germany, Italy and the United States.
