The awareness campaign kicked off on Friday October 16 with the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) Open Day, following Hikma’s Bronze Sponsorship of JBCP’s 2015 national breast cancer awareness campaign. Joining the day’s festivities, which included children’s activities, a comedy skit and remarks by a qualified nutritionist, Hikma sponsored its employees’ participation in a walk organized by Fast Walk and a bicycle ride for the cause.
On October 18, donning pink in honor of the occasion, Hikma’s employees attended a lecture on breast cancer, in which an oncologist discussed the life-saving role of early detection through self-examination, clinical breast exams and regular mammograms. Employees were encouraged to reduce risks by embracing a healthy lifestyle through physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, eating fruits and vegetables and not smoking. This was followed by a talk from a speaker from SANAD, a breast cancer survivors’ group, who shared her inspiring story about combating the disease. Afterward, employees were offered the chance to undergo a clinical breast exam from a qualified medical professional on Hikma’s premises.
In addition, Hikma launched a Facebook awareness campaign, beginning by changing its profile picture to a pink version of its logo and followed by a competition. Throughout the second half of October, Hikma used its Facebook page to pose daily breast-cancer related questions to its followers, awarding a smartphone to the Facebook user who answered the most questions correctly.
“Hikma cares deeply about the health and wellbeing of its employees, which is why it is of the utmost importance to us to ensure that our staff is well-informed in methods of disease prevention and detection,” said Hana Darwazeh Ramadan, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Hikma Pharmaceuticals. “On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we reaffirm our commitment to improving people’s health by providing education on disease prevention and encouraging healthy activities, in addition to offering patients high-quality medications.”
