R&D at Hikma | Meet Dima Freihat, helping bring medicines from development to manufacturing

In this colleague feature, we meet Dima Freihat, Principal Scientist in R&D Solid Orals Formulation Development, Product Transfer Team, based in Amman, Jordan. Dima shares how she helps translate formulations from research and development into commercial manufacturing, the collaboration required to support successful product launches, and what motivates her in helping make medicines available to patients across the region.

What is your name, role, and location?

My name is Dima Freihat, and I am a Principal Scientist – R&D Solid Orals Formulation Development, Product Transfer Team, based in Amman, Jordan.

My role focuses on transferring technical knowledge from R&D to commercial production across manufacturing sites in the region. I support new product launches by helping translate R&D formulations into robust, compliant, and commercially viable manufacturing processes. I also work closely with MENA R&D teams to provide technical support, coordinate manufacturing activities, and support regulatory submission planning.

Could you tell us about your day-to-day activities?

I support new product launches and technology transfers, from reviewing technical and GMP documentation to transferring formulation and process knowledge to manufacturing teams.

I work closely with production, quality, analytical, regulatory, packaging, validation, and manufacturing teams to support manufacturing activities and address technical challenges. I also provide on-site support when needed and help ensure projects remain aligned with approved procedures and applicable requirements.

Following launch, I support activities such as variations and responses to regulatory questions. I also support R&D teams in Algeria and Tunisia with manufacturing plans, project submissions, materials coordination, and technical guidance.

What are the key challenges and opportunities in your role?

Every product transfer brings different technical, manufacturing, and regulatory considerations. Managing differences between sites, equipment, processes, and market requirements requires careful planning and strong collaboration.

Being part of the transfer team also gives me the opportunity to strengthen organizational knowledge, support successful product launches, and bring together colleagues across R&D, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and supply chain.

How would you describe working at Hikma?

Working at Hikma is both challenging and rewarding. The environment encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. I have gained valuable experience through complex projects, cross-functional teamwork, and exposure to international regulatory requirements, which continues to help me grow professionally.

How does your work inspire you?

What inspires me most is the purpose behind the work. Knowing that our efforts contribute to making medicines available to patients motivates me every day.

I also enjoy the continuous learning that comes from solving technical challenges and working with colleagues across different functions and markets. My work brings together science, collaboration, and a meaningful purpose.
