This year’s activities in Jordan began at the Charity Clothing Bank in Amman, where a group of around 20 Hikma employees assisted in sorting donated clothing items to be distributed to the less fortunate. On the following day, in cooperation with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), more than 60 Hikma volunteers participated in a cleanup of the Al-Zara area in the vicinity of the Dead Sea. The campaign’s activities in Jordan ended with around 100Hikma employees taking part in the charity cycling event, Cycling for Palestine, at the Dead Sea. Organized by the Welfare Association for Youth (WAY), proceeds from the event support humanitarian and social projects in Palestine.
Meanwhile, in Egypt, Hikma employees teamed up with Salah El-Din Orphanage to host a picnic for orphan children at the Japanese Garden in Cairo, providing fun and educational activities for their young guests. Additionally, in Portugal, 45 Hikma employees participated in a blood donation drive to benefit the Lisbon Bone Marrow Center. Global Volunteering Day was also marked in Columbus, Ohio, where Hikma’s U.S. subsidiary, West-Ward Pharmaceuticals, supported ‘Drug Disposal Days’, which provide convenient and responsible ways for community members to dispose of all types of medicines. Nine employees volunteered at locations across the city, helping the campaign to net a record total of 4,946 pounds of pharmaceuticals, equivalent to more than 6 million tablets.
"A large part of Hikma’s CR strategy centers around giving back to the communities in which we operate, where we strive to extend a helping hand to those in need while also promoting a culture of volunteerism among our employees," commented Hana Darwazeh Ramadan, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Hikma Pharmaceuticals. "As a leading company in Jordan and a rising international presence in the pharmaceutical world, we believe it is our duty to contribute to the sustainability of our planet, and Global Volunteering Day, which is observed at Hikma’s main manufacturing facilities worldwide, has provided us with an ideal opportunity to support NGOs in their efforts to empower local societies and to protect the environment."
Introduced in 2001 as part of its CR program, Hikma has to date celebrated Global Volunteering Day in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Portugal, Germany, Italy and the United States.
