Responsibility in action

We believe in improving people’s lives. We aim to impact our communities and preserve our environment through our diverse programmes. The case studies below are a testimonial to our initiatives’ success in creating a better future.

Waste Reduction and Recycling at West-Ward

West-Ward Pharmaceuticals (WW), Hikma’s subsidiary in the US, continuously seeks to minimize its impact on the environment through Pollution Prevention, Resource Conservation and Waste Minimization initiatives.  Each West-Ward site proactively works with waste disposal partners, runs awareness campaigns with employees and participates in state and local Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability programs.

There are many sustainability recycling programs that are active at West-Ward, some of which include Office Supply Recycling which minimizes the consumption of new binders, note pads, plastic sleeves and other miscellaneous office supplies; the Cafeteria Sustainability Program  which involves replacing all Styrofoam cups, plates, and food containers with reusable table ware, glass, paper cups, and metal utensils; the Metal Recycling program, which serves as another means to avoid accumulating waste destined for a landfill. Other recycling activities at WW involve batteries, e-waste, and florescent light bulbs.

Royal Health Awareness Society
Health community clinic success story

Samar is a 27-year-old female with type II diabetes. In 2015, Samar heard about the Health Community Clinics project established by the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) in collaboration with Hikma, and was keen to join their treatment programme. At the time, her cumulative blood sugar level was 9.8 mmol/L, potentially leading to internal organ and eye damage. Samar was unable to join the programme as she suffered from cerebral palsy and faced difficulties attending the sessions as well as being active. The doctors at the clinic successfully reached out to her and through monitoring her progress by phone, managed to persuade her to start treatment including exercising and following an appropriate meal plan. Samar was able to lose 10 kilograms and decreased her cumulative blood sugar level to a healthy 5.2 mmol/L. She also participated in a shot put tournament held in Jordan in which she ranked second place.
