Similar to our Company Code of Conduct, the following CR Guiding Principles are set out to our management and employees to outline the values and standards with which CR initiatives and activities are conducted at Hikma.
Ethics and ethical conduct
Honesty and integrity lie at the core of Hikma's business values. Our Ethics Committee, which reports to the Company Board of Directors, oversees all ethical issues. We expect all Hikma employees to meet the highest of ethical standards in business conduct, and we entrust each and every member of our global team to endorse and abide by our Code of Conduct.
Through our partnership with PACI (Partnering Against Corruption Initiative) we at Hikma are committed to a zero tolerance policy to all forms of bribery and corruption, and we have set forth mechanisms to encourage and facilitate the reporting of activities not in compliance with our ethics, Code of Conduct, our Guidelines, and all applicable country laws and regulations.
Respect for all
At Hikma, we respect our communities, our customers, our shareholders, our employees, and our partners. Our policy of promoting an inclusive, bias-free environment is intended to bring to the Company the richness of cultural and social diversity that make Hikma unique, and we work to build healthy relationships with all our stakeholders, thus establishing community collaboration.
We encourage and expect trust, openness and fairness to be the foundation of all our stakeholder relationships, and we acknowledge fundamental human rights as defined by the United Nations. As members of the United Nations Global Compact, we are committed to advancing and implementing the principles of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.
Employment practices
We value our employees as our most important asset, and we aim to be recognised as the market leader in recruiting and retaining the most distinguished of individuals. We repay our employees' loyalty by investing in their future and welfare.
Technical training and capacity building are fundamental in our commitment to advancing our employees, and we refer to GMP's (Good Manufacturing Processes) and GRI data in determining our employee needs and requirements for training.
We treat our employees with respect, and transparency, honesty and dignity are the foundations of our relationships. We are equal opportunity employers and we follow fair practices in relation to all employment issues.
Advocacy – setting the bar
We continuously use our experience to influence business and social development in the Middle East. Our knowledge of the Region and its challenges and opportunities, coupled with our commitment to the betterment of peoples’ lives, urge us to act as an advocate for change in the Region. By sharing our experiences and our best practices, and by promoting the values that Hikma stands for, we aim to raise the bar.
Products and customers
We place the customer first. Our products are created to contribute to bettering the lives of our customers and to alleviating suffering from illness. We comply with all relevant laws and regulations in all the locations where we operate, and we abide by strict ethical, medical, and scientific standards in the production and promotion of all Hikma products.
We invest in our research and development capabilities, in pursuit of advances that will lead to more cost effective products and solutions, and more efficient and sustainable means of delivering our products to those in need.
Investing in the communities in which we work
We at Hikma remain resolute in our belief that investment in our communities brings benefit both to us and to those around us. We strive to make a positive impact and leave an imprint wherever we maintain operations and facilities. We invest in supporting people with the aim of developing their personal and professional skills, and we also donate both financially and in-kind where the need exists. We encourage our employees and partners to do the same by organising and participating in activities that involve volunteering time and resources whenever possible.
Stakeholder engagement
We are open and honest about our Corporate Responsibility matters, and we communicate and engage in a transparent manner with all stakeholders concerned with CR issues and/or with the Company. We commit to addressing the most pressing CR concerns, all the while ensuring the alignment of our CR activities with our business objectives.
Respecting, protecting, and preserving our environment
We will operate in a manner that ensures minimal adverse impact on the natural environments where we have presence. Our official Environmental Policy, which is integrated throughout all Hikma activities, sets forth key performance metrics and targets with relation to energy consumption, water usage, and waste production. At Hikma, we will also contribute, where possible, to projects and initiatives that promote and act upon the protection and preservation of our environment.
