We are quickly becoming a leader in the generic injectable market, with sales in the MENA region, Europe and the United States. Within this niche market we offer one of the most comprehensive ranges of generic injectable cephalosporins (anti-infectives) in the pharmaceutical industry and have recently moved into the generic injectable oncology market.
Although our injectables span nine therapeutic categories, we have particular expertise in anti-infectives, notably cephalosporins - one of the world’s top-five injectables by sales. Increasingly, we are also concentrating on musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and oncological injectables.
We produce powder and liquid injectables at our FDA-approved plant in Portugal and lyophilized injectables at our facilities in Italy and our new facility in Germany. These operations are supported by an extensive R&D capability in injectables.
As of 31 December 2008, our Injectables business had 81 branded and non-branded injectable products in 202 dosage stregths and forms, including seven in-licensed products.
As of 31 December 2008, we had over 139 dedicated injectable sales and marketing representatives, including 92 in the MENA region, 35 in Europe and 12 in the US.
In January 2007 we acquired Ribosepharm GmbH, a German oncology company specialising in the sales and marketing of generic injectable oncology products. Ribosepharm brings 12 oncology products to the Injectable portfolio and 15 experienced oncology sales and marketing staff.
In April 2007 we acquired Thymoorgan GmbH Pharmazie & Co. KG, a German contract manufacturer of injectable oncology products. Though this acquisition we gained the ability to integrate our own manufacturing capability into our new oncology platform.
